Is the Ocean Clipper Angle Line the right CNC angle line for me?
This American made clip angle processing machine has
been especially designed for the structural steel fabricator to
eliminate costly layout and manual drilling procedures and to fabricate
larger profiles in less time. By expediting processing times through
elimination of human labor, fabricators achieve greater profits while
greatly increasing their tonnage-per-month and tonnage-per-employee
outputs.
The Ocean CLIPPER CNC Angle Line can be installed in any
structural steel fabrication shop or other operation where layout and
punching of clip angles or similar parts is required. It is capable of
processing angles from as small as 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1/8” all the way up
to 6” x 6 x 5/8”
Main Characteristics of the Ocean Clipper Angle Line

The Truth About Angle Lines

Most fabricators who have angle lines will tell you that
they seldom run their angle lines all day - they normally run in short
bursts producing enough clip angles to provide the fitters clips
to last the shift or possibly several shifts.
Despite only running a few hours a day, angle lines
still make great economic sense - producing perfectly accurate clip
angles in the fastest possible time, eliminating huge amounts of
expensive man hours, and eliminating errors. These clip angles fit up
faster due to their accuracy and the fabricator never has to wait for
his steel merchant to deliver clips.
But it was this knowledge that the average fabricator
would only run his Angle line a few hours a day, that prompted Ocean
Machinery and Peddinghaus to produce a completely unique machine that
would do it faster and cheaper than any other angle line on the market,
and at last make angle lines affordable for the small to medium
fabricator.
We closely studied the clip angle market in the USA and
the rest of the world, and realized there was an
opportunity for a machine that was more compact and more
affordable than the current offerings. We noticed too,
that over 85% of all clip angles feature round holes in
one leg and slotted holes in the other leg, and this led
us to our design approach.
Make it more compact and make it more affordable!

To achieve our design approach we needed to reduce the
overall size of the typical angle line. In doing so we
would also help to reduce the cost of the machine as
well.
In all angle punch lines, the opposing punches cannot be
set on the same X-axis datum line as they are too large
and have to overlap - this means that the angle is
positioned for the first leg punch, the hole is punched,
and then the angle has to be fed in the X-direction at
least 6 inches before the opposing leg can be punched.
This makes for a long machine, as well as an expensive
machine. It also has the additional down side of having
a long "drop" (the length of angle that cannot be
processed) |
|
This situation allowed us to design an angle line that
is vastly different from all the other angle lines on
the market. The Ocean Clipper uses a drill spindle in combination with the traditional punch
and shear that is typically found on other angle lines. By using a
drill/punch combo, the punch and drill can be positioned directly
opposite each other - something that is not possible with traditional
punch systems.
This allowed us to shorten the overall length
dramatically.
The Ocean Clipper CNC angle line is absolutely unique in the marketplace,
and it is the most compact CNC angle line that is capable of processing
steel angle sections up to 6'x6'x5/8" (150x150x16mm).
|
Small Footprint for this unique Angle Line
This allows the entire machine size to be reduced, making
the Ocean Clipper CNC angle line the most compact CNC Angle line in the
world. The end plates containing the punching and drilling stations are
only 16" apart and the overall length of the machine (excluding the
feeding roller conveyor) is less than 3ft".
Because the drill and the punch are in-line, holes in
both legs can be made without having to jog the material forward,
something that has to happen on regular angle lines.
This shortens the overall processing time significantly
and it also makes the "drop size" the smallest in the industry at only
8-1/8" completely eliminating the need for a welding station.
Built for Serious Duty
Despite its compact size, the Ocean Clipper
Angle Line is designed for heavy duty work in the toughest
fabricating shops in the world. It uses the same hydraulic
spindle as found on the
Ocean Avenger Beam Drill Line.
This virtually bulletproof drill spindle is
13-3/4 HP and is capable of drilling through 10" of steel.
And being hydraulic makes it almost maintenance free.
Maximum hole diameter is 1-9/16" |

The
75 Ton Hydraulic Punch is One of Peddinghaus's standard heavy
duty units and its punching cycle is less than 2 seconds.
It has a maximum slot size of 1-1/4" (Standard
270 punches)
Standard inexpensive Peddinghaus punches and
dies are available from Ocean machinery.
The robust 100 Ton Double Cut Shear has a cycle
time of only 5 seconds and shears steel to 5/8" thick, with a
drop of only 1/2"
For 4x4x3/8" angle or smaller an optional single
cut blade will eliminate the drop |
With the Ocean Clipper, Peddinghaus and Ocean Machinery
have succeeded in creating a powerful yet compact clip angle processing
machine that eliminates another costly labor area in steel fabricating.
